Just Smitten!
I went on a new fabric buying splurge last week and came home with some new Joel Dewberry and Amy Butler fabrics. For the first time in weeks, I couldn't wait to do laundry. :)
I had been eying the new "Sparrows" fabric since I seen it online and loved it even more in person. I think the Orange and Yellow swap really opened my eyes to how gorgeous those colors can be. Needless to say, I bought a combination of 5 yards of various yellow and orange prints. I love looking at them!
I wanted to make a Thank You gift to the girl that gave me the heads up on my new job. She gave me the contact information that got my resume to the right place.
I came up with this nice sized cosmetic bag. It measured 15 inches by 10 inches and then I sewed the corners in to give it a roomy bottom. I loved, loved, loved how it came out. The linen I used matches perfectly with the neutral tones in the sparrow fabric. Perfectly.
I loved it so much I wanted to make another, but only had a smidgen of the same linen left over. I had to get creative with the cutting so I would have enough. I made it up as I went. Because of that my front panel design was too close to the bottom and I couldn't sew the corners in without disrupting the design. So it stayed sewn as a normal zippy pouch. It's currently listed on my Etsy account. This is also rather large measuring at 12 inches by 8 inches. There is a design on both sides.
I also put to use the zipper sewing tip that Ginny posted on her blog a couple weeks back. It was so easy and the results are fabulous.
Using different linen this time, I plan on making myself a set of zipper pouches to travel with since I will be away for training several weeks at a time. I need to make a run to the fabric store to grab some vinyl lining in case my shampoo bottles leak. I am going to be putting in some hard core sewing time this week. There have been lots of ideas floating around my head. I finished up a few old projects last night making way for all my new ideas! In fact, I plan on staying up late tonight cutting new fabric till my eyes can't focus any more.

ReplyDeleteBoth of them are beautiful. I love the sparrow fabric, too.
ReplyDeleteLove your pouches! You did an amazing job on those zippers! That fabric is droolworthy isn't it!
ReplyDeleteLove the cosmetic bag! That fabric is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. I love how you used the sparrows & polka dots. The way it's framed. The linen. Just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear that my zipper tutorial works too. You never know if something makes sense when you're the one who writes it. haha
I love your pouches! I carry mine in my purse everyday and when I take it out to get something, someone always comments on how unique it is. These you've just made with your new fabric are so pretty, and also unique!
ReplyDeleteLovely colors!
ReplyDeleteI am curious where you get your linen....online? Joanns? I need to purchase some and I could use a good recommendation : )
Oh, I'm loving the Joel Dewberry fabrics, too, and I love how you put it with the linen. Like Jenn, I was wondering about your linen source. In the past, I've bought it at Joann, but right now all of theirs seems to be colored or patterned.
ReplyDeleteI have serious fabric envy now! Don't you just love how those little purse corners make a bag seem more roomy?
ReplyDeleteLove the bag. What a great gift idea!
ReplyDeleteI just unpacked another box of fabric this morning (we moved a bit ago) and it got my mind spinning again with ideas for stuff to sew.
I'm off to check out the zipper sewing tip. I love to put zippers in things but I'm certainly no expert.
Good luck with the Etsy sale:)
